Expense Reduction Analysts carve slice off Pizza Hut print costs. Saved 15% on print and 40% on print logistics.

We all know Pizza Hut, after all it’s the largest pizza restaurant company in the world. They have 12,000 outlets in 90 countries around the globe, and with more than 300,000 staff Pizza Hut serves more than 1.3 million pizzas every day to approximately 4 million customers worldwide!

In the UK, Pizza Hut is a household name and has a good reputation as a dynamic, fast-growing company in the pizza restaurant and home delivery industry. As one can well imagine, the packaging requirements they have are serious indeed.

When Gerard Carolan, Financial Controller for Pizza Hut (UK) contacted Expense Reduction Analyst Nigel Rosehill, he was looking for help with improved systems, enhanced supplier relations and some major cost reductions in a number of areas.

A particular focus was to be placed on reliable management information of their print production and distribution costs.

"During our first meeting, Nigel was immediately able to relate to our procurement issues due to ERA's own varied experience drawn from their existing diverse client base,” Gerard recalls of his initial discussions with Nigel.

“This knowledge enabled him to identify those areas where we might encounter challenges from an early stage in the investigations.”

Given the diverse nature of our print requirements and the large number of staff ordering print, it quickly became apparent to Nigel that Pizza Hut’s print process was enormous and very complex.

“What they needed first a foremost was a strategic review of the processes, policies and procedures adopted, and identification of potential areas of improvement,” Nigel recalled.

After advising Gerard and Commercial Procurement Manager of Pizza Hut (UK) Max Wright, that analysis should be undertaken with a focus on key areas of the print process, with examination and comparison of specific unit costs in detail.

The detailed terms of the brief were agreed and Gerard appointed Max Wright, Commercial Procurement Manager of Pizza Hut (UK), as the key contact point, while Nigel invited fellow Analyst Paul Fordham to join him on the project.

Nigel and Paul were then able to follow through the recommendations by handling the negotiations and implementation. Meeting with key personnel from Pizza Hut (UK), they were able to conduct inquiries and compile clear and concise reports backed up by detailed analysis.

With a minimal amount of disruption to the ongoing business they collected insightful information that in turn enabled Gerard and Max to make well-informed decisions. These decisions will assist in further cost-reduction opportunities through process management, something Max was deeply impressed by.

"We are delighted with ERA's work! Nigel and Paul were highly focussed and were able to pinpoint exactly how best to approach this project,” Max concludes.

“In my mind, one of the key reasons why ERA is so successful, is its analysts are totally focused which means they are able to meet deadlines and actually make things happen!"
